Fixed Acrylic Hybrid Prosthetic

Once the implants have finished their healing, a milled titanium subframe is layered with tissue colored acrylic and acrylic teeth in order to create the final prosthetic. This prosthetic is conservative in size and has no movement during chewing and allows the patient to return to a normal diet. It is fixed in place and can only be removed in the dental office.

Benefits

  • palate free on the upper

  • much less bulky than a bar retained denture or a complete denture

  • maintains bone support compared to a complete denture

  • increased chewing ability when compared to a complete denture

Drawbacks

  • requires excellent homecare to keep the prosthetic clean

  • due to the increased chewing force, the acrylic teeth can fracture and require repair

  • food debris can accumulate where the acrylic meets the gums

Maintenance

  • in-office cleaning of the prosthetic every 4 to 8 months and removal every 1 to 3 years

  • the acrylic denture teeth will wear over time and require replacement

  • the tissue colored acrylic may require additions over time if the tissue underneath remodels
