Tooth Extraction in Regina
When is an Extraction Indicated?
Your dentist may recommend an extraction in a situation where the tooth cannot be restored due to extensive decay or a fracture below the level of the bone. An extraction may also be indicated when you have an abscessed tooth, or the tooth has erupted or is erupting into an undesirable position. Extractions can also be indicated in cases where there is insufficient room for all the teeth or if a primary (baby) tooth is impacting the eruption of a permanent tooth.
What Happens With This Procedure?
After administering local anesthetic, your dentist will use a series of instruments to initially elevate (loosen) the tooth and then remove the tooth. In some cases, the dentist may need to make an incision in the gum tissue, cut the tooth, or remove a small amount of bone that would otherwise prevent the tooth from being removed. At the end of the procedure the dentist and dental assistant will confirm that any bleeding is well contolled and sutures will be placed if necessary.
