Your First Visit Sets the Tone for Long-Term Oral Health
Whether it is your first visit or your first visit in a while, a comprehensive dental exam helps us understand your needs and set a plan that is individual to you.
We begin every new patient relationship with a full dental exam and a conversation. These appointments are about more than just checking for cavities, we take the time to get to know you. We will review your oral health history, listen to your concerns, and explain everything along the way.
Your first visit gives us a chance to understand your teeth, gums, jaw, and bite. It also gives you the opportunity to ask questions and understand your care plan. This visit helps establish a foundation for ongoing dental care.
What To Expect
During a new patient or routine exam, we may check:
Your teeth for signs of decay, wear, or damage
Your gums for inflammation, recession, or signs of gingivitis and periodontal disease
Your bite and jaw movement
Any existing restorations (fillings, crowns, bridges, etc.)
Soft tissues for signs of oral cancer or other concerns
Diagnostic imaging (X-rays or CBCT scans, as needed)
Your overall oral hygiene habits and areas for improvement
If anything needs attention, we’ll walk you through the options and explain why we’re recommending a particular approach. We aim to provide clear information before any treatment decisions.
Who This Visit Is For
Comprehensive exams are for everyone. Whether you’re a new patient, returning after a break, or simply due for your six-month checkup. Regular visits help us catch small issues early and prevent more complex problems later.
For younger patients, we adjust the exam to fit their comfort level, introducing them to the space, using simple explanations, and keeping the experience positive.
Why It Matters
Early detection and prevention are key to long-term oral health. Regular exams allow us to:
Catch cavities while they’re small and easier to treat
Monitor gum health and prevent progression of disease
Track changes over time and adjust your care as needed
Even if you’re not feeling discomfort, it’s important to stay on top of routine exams. Many dental concerns develop slowly and silently, addressing them early can often mean simpler, more comfortable solutions.
